Patrick Kearney is a world-class traveler, but in his early days of travel, a trip to Rome changed his life.
“My Mother is Italian, and her parents came to America from Naples, Italy. I was lucky enough to travel there several years ago on my first trip to Europe, but since then, I’ve traveled back to Italy and many other places in Europe and beyond, but my heart will always remain in Rome.,” said Patrick Kearny.
“Beyond the pull and desire to see and hear locals spewing the Italian language, understand their expressions and take in those beautiful facial features and enigmatic style, I fell in love with Rome the first time I stepped foot out on that historical piece of land.
“The architecture is mesmerizing and beyond comprehension. I walked and walked my first few days trying new and traditional foods and wines and enveloped as much as my brain and imagination would take in.”
Patrick Kearney continued, “I like to do things on a whim, by the seat of my pants as some would say, so one morning I ventured off in the wee hours before the sun came up to the nearest landmark in close proximity to my hotel, which was St. Peter’s Basilica.
“Not many people were even up at that hour, but I soon found troves of individuals lining up with tickets in their hands. Where were they headed to? What were they so excited to see? I asked a young Jesuit priest what was going in and he informed me that it was a general public admission to see the Pope! The Pope, I exclaimed! I was fortunate enough to receive a ticket last minute and sat just a few rows back from the altar.
“Even though the entire service was in Italian (which I do NOT speak) I understood very clearly that this touching mass was one that I’d not soon forget. From the popemobile being literally inches from me to the gorgeous music, I watched the armed Swiss Guards perform their duty with grace, and the angelic atmosphere that enthralled me from the moment I walked in, overcame my spirit. I can’t explain the empathetic and relatable embrace I felt that day. I understood that there is a deeper meaning to life and if I could pinpoint it exactly, I’d say, I felt the face of God.”
Patrick Kearny explained further, “The Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, and so many other sites that I was able to enjoy were all incredibly illuminating, but the mass with the pope that one morning, will is what keeps bringing me back to this monumental city with a heart that is daring, loving and adventurous.”
FRENCH POLYNESIAN—Because of Patrick D. Kearney’s epic traveling history, numerous people ask him where the best place he has ever visited on earth is? What is his response? Patrick Kearney explains, “I’ve been to some pretty amazing places, so narrowing it down should be difficult, but it’s not. I’m a warm weather, water-based, beach loving guy, and my ultimate destination is Mo’orea. There’s nothing else like it.
“There are, of course, many islands in the French Polynesian, so why do I consider Mo’orea to be the best? Well, it’s all about the island itself. With a picturesque view of jagged, green, volcanic mountains, Mo’orea has one of the largest coral reef ecosystems that can be enjoyed from the water, glass-bottom boat or by simply just overlooking the water from above. From the clear, clean water to the plethora of sea life and mountainous views that line the crystal blue waters are the reason that so many people like myself agree that Moorea is paradise on earth.”
Patrick Kearney continued, “Staying in the private overwater bungalow was a dream come true. My bungalow had a large window in the floor, which showcased schools of fish daily and the spotlight in the water allowed me to see gorgeous sea life at night as well. The long walkways to the bungalow were peaceful and a pleasure to stop and see additional vantage points throughout the resort. Each bungalow offers a large private deck that overlooks the water from which you can jump in and swim with the fish anytime you desire. With detailed Polynesian décor, a soaking tub and the best room service, where the wait staff literally canoes up to your private deck with world-class cuisine, the amenities were extraordinary.
“Of course, there is a French theme to much of the cuisine and market places. I ate my fill of French wine and cheese along with local island fare. You can rent a small electric car, enjoy private tours as well and visit a pineapple farm, magic mountain, and numerous natural parks and gardens, but for the majority of your trip, you should plan on being in the water.”
Patrick Kearney began his trip in the lap of luxury as he flew to Dubai on Emirates Airlines direct from JFK airport. The airline offers world-class accommodations and doesn’t spare any conveniences. From a lounge to the finest, chef-prepared cuisine, this is the way to travel.
Patrick Kearney stayed at the indulgent Oberoi Dubai, five-star hotel. The Oberoi offers a coveted rooftop view of the Burj Khalifa. Patrick stated, “My senses were immediately overwhelmed with glamorous people, impeccable architecture, and cultural experiences that are unparalleled.” Patrick continued, “This is the most modern, innovative melting pot with amazing restaurants, and service that’s beyond comprehension.”
Dubai is known for its Indian, Middle Eastern, European, Filipino, Turkish and Lebanese cultural experiences, but do not let this cause any apprehension about language barriers, as English is the primary spoken language. In Dubai, the locals and business owners are welcoming and kind and appreciate visitors.
Patrick D. Kearney explained his trip further, “It’s a safe place to visit; I never once felt apprehensive. There are also different levels of travel for individuals from all walks of life. Of course, there is the shi-shi, ultimate, luxurious experience, but if you just want a vegan kabob, slice of pizza or some hummus and pita, everything is available. Many places offer various levels of pricing. There are also less expensive hotels and other places to stay to accommodate different budgets.
“The desert is glorious, and the stars are expansive. I’ve never seen anything like the bright-glowing sunsets that enveloped the skies each of the seven nights of my stay. In contrast, “Patrick continued, “ the beaches are pristine with sapphire blue calm water that had the most gorgeous people sunbathing and enjoying a refreshing swim. The best part about the beach is that it was alongside the skyscraping city limits for the most impressive effect and view.”
